The 2020 General Election is a short time away.  Leading up to this important day in our nation's history will be key dates for early, absentee, and in-person voting. This page is available to you as a trusted resource for election-related information and events. Once our party's nominees have been selected, you will also find candidate information here as well.

IMPORTANT 2020 DATES TO REMEMBER:

 

  • July 6 – The first day that absentee ballot requests can be accepted by the Polk County Election Office for the General Election.

​​

  • October 5 – The first day requested absentee ballots can be mailed to voters for the primary election.

​​

  • October 5 – The first day absentee ballots can be voted in the Polk County Election Office. The office is open 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. 

​​

  • October 19 – Iowa’s designated Worry-Free Postmark Date for voter registration forms which are postmarked on or before today are considered on time to be pre-registered for the primary election, even if they are received after the pre-registration deadline.

​​

  • October 24 - Voter Pre-Registration Deadline.  The deadline to pre-register to vote for the primary election is 5:00 p.m. Same day voter registration is still available if the deadline is missed.

​​

  • October 24 - Absentee ballot request deadline for voters that want a ballot mailed to them for the primary election. The physical request must be in the Polk County Election Office by 5:00 pm. Voters can still vote in person in the Polk County Election Office.

  • October 24 - Polk County Election Office will be open from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

​​

  • October 31 - Polk County Election Office will be open for 8 hours for early in-person voting for the general election.

​​

  • November 2 – Final day for absentee in-person voting at the Polk County Election Office. The office will be open 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

​​

  • November 3 -General Election Day Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Absentee ballots may be delivered to the county auditor’s office until 9:00 p.m.
